About History Unfolded

History Unfolded is a database containing data drawn from over 50,000 newspaper articles published between 1933 and 1946. History Unfolded sheds light on what information about the Holocaust was available to people throughout the United States during this time period. These articles were submitted to History Unfolded by students, teachers, and history buffs around the country between 2015 and 2023. These citizen historians looked in local newspapers for news and opinion about 46 different Holocaust-era events that took place in the United States and Europe, and submitted articles they found to this national database. History Unfolded raises questions for scholars and has informed the Museum’s initiative on Americans and the Holocaust.

The Museum is deeply grateful to our donors for their generous support of History Unfolded. View donor list.
