NEW YORK, Mar. 16. (UP)—Dr. Albert Einstein, honored by 1,000 persons at a banquet last night, denounced nationalism as "a grave danger threatening all of western civilization."

Today he was saying goodbye to American friends, and preparing to sail Saturday for Amsterdam. He will not set foot in his native Germany as long as Adolph Hitler and the nationalistic coalition remains in power.

Dr. Einstein pleaded for the Hebrew University in Palestine and the Jewish telegraphic agency.

"The significance of the university in Jerusalem for the Jewish people will be heightened by the fact that the Jews of eastern Europe are being barred from the sciences and the practices of scientific professions," he said.

"Nationalism is a grave danger for the entire western civilization, which at one time had its origin in Greece; behind it are powers inimical to life. To combat it is the inescapable duty of every well intentioned and perceiving person of our time."
