- New York, July 8. (AP)—Three hundred and fifty British child refugees, a number of them babies in arms, arrived today on the British liner, Samaria—the second such refugee ship to reach New York within 24 hours—as a nation-wide campaign to provide a haven for such children was speeded up.
Formation of "The National Child Refugee Committee," to organize local committees over the county and co-ordinate the activities of various groups already active, was announced shortly before the ship's arrival.
The children, ranging in age from a few weeks to 12, were among about 1,000 passengers on the Cunard-White Star liner. They followed 71 youngsters who arrived yesterday on the British liner Scythia. - History Unfolded Contributor
