The Martin Luther King Jr. branch of the DC public library also provides access to many local newspapers from the period 1933-1945 on microfilm. These include the Washington Post, the Washington Evening Star, the Washington Daily News, Washington Herald, Washington Times (Old) Evening Edition, and Washington Times Herald. Japanese-American Internment Camp Newspapers, 1942 to 1946

Washington, DC

Description: Japanese-Americans incarcerated in camps around the country during World War II produced newspapers which include articles written in English and Japanese. By April 11, 1942, less than a month after FDR issued executive order 9066, the Manzanar Free Press began publication at the Manzanar Relocation Center in Inyo County, California. As other camps were established, many began publishing their own newspapers, some of which lasted until the camps slosed in 1945 or 1946. The Library of Congress collection Includes 29 newspapers (in English, Japanese, or both) from camps in seven states.
